Also includes are relevant add-ons, documentation and tutorials. Feel free to use the programs on multiple computers and make copies for your friends. This software is free!

TheOpenCD project is pleased to announce the release of version 2.0 of our Windows-FOSS distribution. About TheOpenCD:

TheOpenCD is a small collection of only the highest quality OSS for Windows, easily available on a CD. The programs are carefully selected to ensure stability, ease of use and a clean install and un-install from your computer. The CD is intended as a first introduction to the world of OSS, but it is our hope that you will later go on to explore other projects, and at some stage you may even want to try a whole new operating system, such as Linux (sometimes called GNU/Linux).

The source code to the applications on this disc are available at:

Section 3 of the GPL states that the source code must either (a) be made available along with the excecuteables or (b) a writen offer must be included offering to supply the source code directly. Only if the program has NOT BEEN RE-COMPILED and the distributor is NON-PROFIT, is it sufficient to simply pass on an offer provided by someone else (3.c). TheOpenCD project IS non-profit and we have not re-compiled any of the programs but are simply redistributing the original binaries as obtained from the original sources, and as such we qualify for pt 3.c. However, we believe that is is good FOSS practice to supply the relevant source whenever you distribute binaries, so we will also make sources available. For the last release of TheOpenCD, sources will be available from our FTP servers in the same location as the CD ISO images, and physical CDs produced by us will also contain the source code, space permitting. Source code from previous versions will be available from our main FTP server, space permitting, and will always be available upon request.

A note to CD re-sellers: When you sell CDs for a profit, you are _not_ covered by pt. 3.c of the GPL. That means that you must either (a) include the sources with the software (ie. place it on the CD or a separate CD) or (b) include an explicit offer with the software to provide the sources upon request. This could be on paper with the CD, or as a file added to the CD. It is NOT sufficient for you to simply pass on the offer made by us or by the original project.
